Salmon Idaho is the back from the Middle Fork and into the Main Salmon River. When you come to this town you feel the connection to the river, a place with a rich history and connection to the river for which it is named from. As one would expect in a town named for a river, there are a number of great done-in-a day river trips. The floats near town are more often floated for fishing but still make wonderful scenic floats for those looking to bask in the views of the incredible surrounding mountains. Those looking for a little more action need to head to North Fork and then down to Shoup, right where the Lewis and Clark expedition abandoned the Salmon River feeling it was going to become too treacherous to navigate. What scared Lewis and Clark away will prove fun for you. This section of river is full of splashy class II rapids and even a class III or two to make sure you get plenty of excitement while still being a perfect float for families.
So if you find yourself in this beautiful corner of Idaho, one cannot come to the Salmon - North Fork Idaho area and not float on the river. If you do you will miss an experience to understand what really makes this place so incredible.
