Jet boat trips on the Salmon River above Riggins are mainly focused on fishing in the fall for steelhead or in the summer for chinook salmon.
During the spring and summer, jet boat outfitters also offer half-day and full-day trips from Riggins upstream to the edge of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness at Vinegar Creek. The 30-mile river section is very scenic, as the river flows by old-growth ponderosa pine trees, big white sandy beaches, and vertical granite rock formations in the Salmon River canyon. In the spring, when the river flows are appropriate, jet boat tours navigate several large rapids such as Vinegar, Ruby and Lake Creek, providing thrills for jet boat guests.
A dirt road goes east from a bridge on the south end of town. The road continues 28 miles up the Salmon and dead ends. There are boat ramps at Vinegar Creek, Wind River, Spring Bar, and in town at Riggins. There are numerous additional put-in and take-out points all along.
