Need an all-day canoe float near McCall to kick back and get away from it all? No problema. Try this run. It comes complete with high mountain scenery, osprey, heron, beaver, and some reasonable rainbow fishing to boot. Plan a full day (very full day at lower flows) depending on the release from Payette Lake. Bring suntan lotion, fishing gear and a full cooler.
Do not be lulled into complacency during all this fun, as the current piles into the log jams on the outside corners. Good camping is at Ponderosa State Park in McCall.
Put in at sheep bridge below the Smokejumpers loft on the west side of the McCall airport. Reach the Hartzell Bridge take-out by driving south on State Highway 55, three miles beyone Lake Fork, and turning due west to the bridge.
