The upper Class I run is included here because it offers the angler/river runner a chance to match wits with some of the biggest and wiliest trout in the world. It’s the right fly, at the right time of day, with the proper presentation that entices these fish. Consult a local fishing shop for further information.
This 5.5 - mile trip meanders its way through wet marsh-lands. A fly rod and canoe are the equipment of choice.
Additional Runs: The action picks up a bit on the Henry’s Fork below Macks Inn. This 5.5 mile Class II section has an 11 fpm drop. At the halfway point is a Class III drop called Coffee Pot Rapids.
Get off Interstate 15 at Idaho Falls and head northeast towards Yellowstone National Park on U.S. 20. At Macks Inn, the take-out, turn east to Big Springs and put in. To reach the take out for the lower section go 3.4 miles south on U.S. 20 from Macks Inn. Turn West on A2 for 2 miles to the bridge.
